Teachers and students from Finlayson Park School describe how using ICTs adds value to the inquiry process in the classroom.
One of our focus[es] for using ICT is to use the inquiry learning approach. Our aim is to integrate ICT into the classroom, into the curriculum.
[I am doing some work with/on PowerPoint about the Rugby World Cup.]
[Here at Finlayson Park School my topic is about Samoa and learning about their kai, their people and their land because we supporting Samoa.]
[I am researching on the Internet, my task alongside Matua Nick is to ask him some questions about the Rugby World Cup, once completed i will be able to show it to the/my whānau.]
It makes it easier for me as a teacher to where I can set them up and say to them you are now going to research different information about these certain topics and I can let them go away independently to do that which frees me up to float around to all the different groups in my classroom and then maybe help the groups that are struggling in different areas. I don’t have to stand in the front and be the person that tells them this is what you are learning and this is it. It helps me to be able to learn beside my students as well. They teach me things as much as I teach them things so it’s a learning environment for both myself and my children.
