Finlayson Park School work with the philosophy of doing more for many with less. They have set up a free after school study centre for students to allow them access to computers and the Internet as many families don't have Internet access from home. Students are provided with a snack, a teacher to help them with their homework, and a teacher aide to assist with the technical setup.

We live in a low socio-economic area. Not many of our parents have computers at home.

Our vision for our school and our children in our school is that we really need to have available to them as much variation of ICT tools as possible. We also need to be able to supply them with those tools, as they would probably never get access to them in their own homes.

Well we’re trying to work with the philosophy of doing more for many with less. We as a school realise that our students don’t have Internet access at home. Lots of the answers are on the World Wide Web and as a result we decided to allow them access to Internet after school so that they can do their homework and get the answers that they need to questions that they are asking. We’ve set up a study centre after school and that’s free, we don’t charge the children. We provide them with a snack in addition to providing them with a teacher to help them with their homework and a teacher aide to assist with the technical stuff in the ICT room.

And as a result we decided [to] as an ICT school that we would buy second hand computers because we have the skills in our school to fix those computers, refurbish them, and put them in the classroom.
